When you‘ve seen something in the landscape that looks like art, you just have to try to capture it and share.

The Brighton bathing boxes looked like a work of art when we walked along the Dendy Street Beach just a few kilometers outside of Melbourne. There is quite a history to the bathing boxes. They originated in about 1862 with the original purpose of creating privacy for changing at the beach. We were told that by today's ordinances you can only own a bathing box if you inherit one from a family member. The basic structure cannot be altered, but as you can see from the photos and the website the beauty is in the collection and the variation of colors chosen by the inidivudal owners.

This was one of those sites that I didn't want to miss sharing with you. It reminded me a bit of the history of the Outing Club in Clear Lake, IA where the ownership is passed along from generation to generation.

I hope you enjoy this brief stop along the Melbourne Coast as much as we did.
